Dream Symbols and Meanings

What do my dreams mean? One of the questions that most people will ask themselves at least once in their lifetime. This area is where I will list several of the more common symbols and dream meaning for you to use to start to decipher dreams on your own. To list every single symbol and its meaning would take a life time because there are just so many and each can be interpreted in a different way depending on the context of the dream. If a symbol is not there that you are looking for either email me your dream and ask for it to be interpreted or simply ask for the symbol and I will gladly help you out. This place is a site built for dreams and dream theory but Im also here as a mentor and as a friend to anybody who may need it.

I will add new symbols from time to time, remember this site is new and Im aiming to build up a group of regular members, that means you, to help me keep bringing new content and new people to this site so please help. It is the people who visit this site that will make it successful in the end.

Accident

Dreams that involve accidents should be taken as warnings and tells us we should be aware of hidden agression, either in our ourselves or others. Spiritually there are no such thing as accidents so this can signify divine intervention or interference from an authoritive source.


Anger

Anger expressed in a dream often can represent other passionate emotions or even sexual desires. In a dream we can release all our anger in a safe way not causing harm to anybody in the process. If you are not the type of person to show anger outwardly in waking life this is your way of venting your anger with confidence.


Actor

To dream of an actor is to become aware of the ego inside of us. We often are conscious of the roles we play in life and dreaming of a famous actor can show that perhaps we are not playing the part we really want to in life.


Alone

Being alone can have positive and negative connotations. Feeling lonely shows you that you feel left to face the world on your own. On the other hand it could show your drive for independence. The mood of the dream should clarify which meaning to aim for.


Animals

When we dream of animals, depending on the type of animal it usually represents a part of our personality that can only be understood on an instinctive level.

Baby Animals: The dreamer is trying to come to term with his or her child-like side of his or her personality. If a young animal is hurt or ill the dreamer may be struggling to become mature or face their life at that moment in time.

Cat: The Cat links us the sensuous side of human beings usually within women. The cat can represent the helpful and the devious side of the women, elegant but also powerful

Deer: The deer represents that the dreamer has found his place in the world. It can also represent pride and nobility.

Dog: Represents a faithful and constant companion, a protector or more negatively someone who the dreamer cant cant shake off and might make trouble for them.

Elephant: Dreaming of the elephant represents memory, stength and fidelity. It shows we can recognise the qualities of patience.

Fox: Sly and cunning.

Goat: The Goat can represent the dark sides of ourselfs. It also can be seen as a link to sex and promiscuousness. On a lighter note it can also signify creativity and the vitality of the masculine.

Horse: The colour of the horse signifys its importance. A white horse represents spirituality where as a brown horse shows practicality. A black horse is our passionate side and a pale horse death.

Jackal: A jackel can represent death but as an animal it is also a cleanser.

Jaguar: The jaguars main qualities are speed and balance. It represents the balance of power between the dark and light forces.

Lamb: This is the ultimate symbol of innocence. No evil can withstand such innocence.

Leopard: Represents cruelty and agression and traditionally the misuse of power.

Lion: Stands for majesty, strength and courage. It can also represent the Ego. If a person if struggling with a lion aslong as they are not overpowered by it then sufficient progression shoud be made. If they are overpowered then a part of them is being surpressed.

Mouse: Timidity of the dreamer. Struggling from a lack of understanding.

Snake: This symbol can signify death and destruction. In mans dream it may surface when he has not come to terms with his femine side or if he is maybe doubting his masculinity. In a womans dream it can surface if she is perhaps worried about sex or she is not confident within herself. Due to the serpent appearing in the Garden of Eden it also can represent trickery and evil within temptation.

Evil - Threatening Animals: These can represent the dreamers struggle to come to terms with the stirrings of their own subconscious.

Wild Animals: Represent danger. There may be a destructive force arrising in the individual that could threaten their saftey.

Wounded Animals: Represent an injury within our own personality emotionally or spiritually.



Beach

Being on a beach shows our awareness of the boundaries between the emotions and reality. Depending on the actions of the dream it represents an ultimate symbol of relaxation and creativity. If the beach is empty it represents complete emotional clarity.


Break

If something appears as broken to us it represents the loss or damage of something such as love or friendship. If a personal thing is broken this shows us that we need to break away from our past and make new changes. If we ourselves are breaking something then we should look towards something in our lifes that we need to break away from such as a bad relationship.


Cave

The cave symbol in dreams represents an entrance to the subconscious mind. Even though the journey may be dangerous or frightful perservere and you will discover many things about yourself.


Bizzare

Dreams appearing as bizzare and strange can simply be the minds way of drawing attention to the problem or information in the dream. It does this because you are less likely to forget a strange dream than a normal every day event.


Bright

Brightness in dreams means that some part of our life needs illuminating, often by an external force such as a friend or occupation. We are finding ways to access the brighter side of our personality. 

 


Bridge

The bridge signifies the emotional connection between the dreamer and the people around them. The type of bridge eg. strong and sturdy or weak and small represents the strength of those connections.


Chased

Being chased is one of the most common dreams. It signifies that we are trying to escape our own commitments and responsibilites. It can also be that we are scared to face some emotions that are rising within us at the present time.


Colours

Colours have had their effects proven by scientists, depending on which colours are being shown different attributes are present.

Black: This colour suggests negativity and judement.

Blue: This is the main healing colour, its properties are relaxation, sleep and peacefulness.

Brown: Death and commitment.

Green: This is the colour of harmony and nature. Can also show the colour of jealousy.

Orange: Independence.

Red: Energy and power. Common attributes are danger.

White: Suggests innocence and purity. Spirituality.


Corridor

When we are in a corridor we are sometimes trapped between two states of mind not knowing which one is the most acceptable. The corridor also can highlight a situation that is unsatisfactory but inevitably the only available course of action is to accept it.


Corner

Turning a corner means we can move forward in life into new experiences, states of mind and relationships. If it is a right handed corner it is a logical action, if it is left it is a more instinctual action.







 



 

 



Canal

The canal is a man made object. Its banks are maintained so that it only flows within them never picking its own war through the countryside like a river does. This relates to the fact that maybe you are either acting too within your own restraints and should break your banks so to speak.



Dance

Dancing shows the feeling of freedom and expression. It also can highlight the possibilty of becoming closer wtih an intimate partner.


Death

Death in dreams often represents a challenge we have to face. If we ourselves die in the face of a challenge we may be struggling to over it come whatever it is and are feeling overpowered. Death can also be a transitional symbol showing that we are moving into a new stage of our life.


Dark

Being in the dark is a common symbol of confusion and possibly there is a part of yourself that you do not recognise yet. Commonly associated with shyness and lack of confidence to step into the light.

 


Door

The symbol of a door is showing you the possibility to move forward from one state to another. For example if you have been searching for the confidence to interact more with others this could be your minds way of showing you that you have infact completed this task and your ready to walk through. The door if open can symbolise that we have new oppurtunities open to us and we have to make decisions as to whether to take them or not. If the door is open or sinister in any way, possibly guarded by a fiend or covered in ivy then we may have obstacles to overcome first.


Eastern Setting

This symbol and setting can signify that we are looking at a more religious and spiritual side to ourselves. In spiritual terms the life of man began in the east with the Garden of Eden believed to have existed in now modern day Iraq. The East signifies new beginnings.


Evil

Evil appearing in dreams can be the parts of our own personalities that we have locked away. These need to be acknowledged before an individual can become a better person as a whole. Also see Carl Jungs theory of The Shadow.


Emotions

Our emotions in dreams can sometimes be more focused and intense as the mind lifts our restraints as freedom of expression takes over. Try to identify the exact mood in your dream and relate this to any current events in your life if appropiate.


Escape

The escape in a dream is the symbol of our inner selfs trying to avoid or move away from our responibilities. Depending on what is chasing you this should highlight the course of action you need to take, look up the individual entry.


Falling

To dream of falling shows a lack in ones confidence. We may feel like we are being dropped by our friends or loved ones. Surrender has become our only option in the present circumstance.


Fight

If there is a fight in our dream or we ourselves are fighting we are confronting our need for independence. If you are angry and are trying to resolve a problem in your life you dream may take this further by pysically expressing that anger where it is safe to do so. Look for any conflicts you may have inside of yourself in your waking life.


Famous People

Famous people can appear in dreams as a way of showing us the desirable characteristics and abilites that we want to create within ourselves. For a young child to dream of a famous person it can highlight the fact that they are not yet ready for a serious relationship.


Flying

Possibly one of the most common dreams it can show us that we are feeling free and not restrained by anything in our life. You are moving towards lifting the limitations you place on yourself in waking.


Friends

When friends appear in our dreams we have to take a look at the relationship we have with that person. The events in the dream will help to highlight the state of this relationship in some cases but in others they may be there to show you support. Secondly you must realise what these people mean to you and why they are present in your dream.
